System Requirements for Populex® Voter Registration Server
The basic hardware and software requirements for Populex® Voter Registration server depend on which version of Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE is being used. The Populex® Voter Registration Server comes with MSDE 2000 - a small workgroup-class database that can easily scale up to any edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
To install and run Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE 2000 you will need:
| Hardware |
Minimum Requirements |
Recommended |
| Computer |
Intel Pentium or compatible, 166 MHz or higher |
Intel Pentium or compatible, 500 MHz or higher |
| Memory (RAM) |
128 MB or more |
512 MB or more |
| Hard disk space |
75-100 MB for MSDE 2000
95?270 MB for MS SQL Server |
See below for data disk requirements |
The largest amount of hard disk space in the Populex® Voter Registration server software is consumed by document and signature images. The amount of the disk space is determined by the average number of registered voters in the county. A rough estimate is about 4 GB for 100,000 registered voters. Additional space is required to store imported historical data (including images).
System Requirements for Populex® Voter Registration Workstation
Populex® Voter Registration is capable of running on Windows 95 and up and is not hardware-intensive. An exception to this is the sizeable amount of memory (RAM) needed on the workstation(s) running large reports (as the reports store data in memory).

Additional Workstation and Network Hardware
Populex® Voter Registration works with any Windows supported printers: local, shared, or networked. High-resolution laser or jet printers are required to print barcodes. Some reports may also require support of printing on stationary (voter ID cards, labels or directly on envelopes) or optionally special formats (mailing labels can be printed individually on specialized printers).
Document imaging in Populex® Voter Registration requires scanner(s) that comply with TWAIN interface specifications (Note: some advanced network scanners do not support TWAIN). Scanners with automatic document feeders are recommended as they can make scanning multiple application forms easier.
Barcode scanning requires barcode reader equipment. There are no specific requirements to the interface - the barcode reader drive should make it transparent.
